shoes. for nowat.

if your like me and enjoy browsing designer goods on netaporter knowing there is no way in your small cold heart you'll ever afford them, think again. i have discovered outnet.com. home to wonderful discounted designer stuff. like these shoes......for €289 from charlotte olympia which were orginally 600 euros. nice.

get mr kane for cheap

oh how i am going to get shot for this but, should you fancy it. some of the christopher kane stuff is in the sale in topshop. including the yellow dress (i blogged about this before. its the worst fitting dress i ever tried on. now, keeping aside that this is Mr Kane. he of the blog hatred. it really does fit so badly. i normally manage a 10-12. in a 14 this was tight on my arms, swimming everywhere else and the lace panels were cut incorrectly so that the things that should have been covering my boobs, did not)
anyway, if you feel like you would like to wear something ill fitting and bright yellow for new years, its there. for 20 sterling.

the cute bag though which would only fit a small amount of cash, an anorexic phone and no fags is also there.

the animal print t-shirts and dresses are gone i am afraid. but the studded body is there. (does anyone look good in bodies ?)

oh and two pairs of his studded heel/booties. those i do want....chances of them being left over in the sale when i get back to Dublin are slim to fuck all....so there you have it.

mr kane going cheap....

i love boxie rocks

i love a good t-shirt. and i love a good website.
so what do you get when you combine the two ?

everyone is encouraged to send in a story. (has your x cheated on you ? stolen your dreams ? changed sex ? - you get the idea) this story is then changed into a sentance which is printed on a t-shirt. if you go online you can read the story behind the t-shirt and if your lucky, it could be yours. i'm serious. i have got to get me one of these tees.

tees range between 32 - 37 pounds and you can pick which one you feel tells your story best if you haven't got one yourself. you can get it in vest form to oversized t-shirt form. you pick. but i gotta get me one of these

pretty reckless indeed

I did not know this but, apparently Taylor Momsen from Gossip girl is in a band. a band which has just signed to the same label as the black eyed peas. all this and she is still underage! when i was her age I was wearing cheap high street and trying to bum lifts off strangers to get to the city......faaaantastic! oh and her band is called pretty reckless.
haven't heard them yet but apparently, they are quite good....

hunky dory home

I am actually obsessed with decorating my home right now. and i found a nifty little website to help me do it. while their cushions are not for the thin of wallet - £35 per cushion. they are pretty cool (see below) and i loved this cool jug above. I want one for those summer days where I shall be drinking a lot of iced tea and Pimms. the little birds are too cute. www.hunkydoryhome.co.uk has a limited amount of stock on it. but is perfect for all those little things you could get someone as a gift. I already know about 4 people who would easily be sorted with a cushion or a jug. as for myself. I want the english cushions!

REVIEWED : HOT COCKTAILS

Reviewed : The new hot cocktail menu @SPY on south William street

rating : 5/5

I never turn down a drink or six after a long hard day of dealing with old people at work. and when invited to a cocktail tasting night at SPY i could not resist. Although i have a confession. I didn't read the invite properly and failed to realise that when they said hot. they physically meant hot. i thought they just meant amazing!
but they were though. I had the merry berry. it was not something i would have thought of. hot apple sours and raspberry vodka. but it was gorgeous and well worth it. if you haven't already gone to try them, do but take our advice : go before 9pm (they are just 5 euro) and be prepared to wait at the bar as we went again on thursday and the place was jammed. one bar person. many many bar flies all wanting hot cocktails!
check out their facebook page for a full list of drinks and things happening

REVIEWED : 'ITS COMPLICATED' - FILM

all these things that i have seen......

reviewed : 'it's complicated.'

starring : Meryl Streep, Alex Baldwin, Steve Martin

rating : is it possible to give o out of five ?

ok, it's generally accepted that Meryl Streep is brilliant. I always forget she isnt who she is pretending to be. I was very sceptical when I heard she would be Miranda in Devil wears Prada, but she pulled it off. So when I was invited to the opening of the new Streep and Baldwin film. I went.

I wore my alter girl dress (so named as it has a high collar, puff sleeves and a short hem, oh and it's black) houndstooth tights i picked up that day from Oasis and various accessories.

I wish i hadn't wasted my good tights on a shite film. If I had paid for it I would have not left without my money back in my purse. it was terrible. here we go :

1 - why cast alex baldwin in anything ? the man is a joke! I spent most of the film retching whenever (and this happened more then once) he took his shirt off and i had to see his hairy nipples....why do men have nipples ?...anyway, he ruined the film for me. i am sure he is a lovely man. but in this film he just ruined it. we couldn't stop laughing at him. and not because he was cracking jokes. So that ruined the film first of all for me.

2 - I don't know who wrote the script but it was embarrassing. so many cliqued moments of oprah-esque crap flowed. it was so so cringy.

3 - I could not believe that streep's character would have had such a bad choice to make. the fat one or the mentally ill looking old man. (steve martin - who FWI is looking really really really old.)

these sound like small things but in fact they are not. they are, all together things that can make or break your film. and in this case it broke it. into a million pieces. it just did not work. i don't know who was at fault more. casting ? or scriptwriters ? either way.

the review is this friends.

stay clear of it. its awful.

ps - that wan from TV3 with the cut off hair do was at the launch. her hair is actually something i think everyone should expierience at least once. this is my second time. and each time i feel like i am just that little bit more scarred for life.

rihanna is your 2009 most stylish lady!

hurrah for rihanna. she won. beating lady gaga, the winner from the last round
it's been a crazy year for rihanna, she just seemed to get better and better really. then there was the chris brown incident. but, hopefully with his career in tatters and his image ruined he will do the decent thing and just fuck off.

but the reason i like rihanna is she is not afraid to take a style challenge. while she is not as out there as gaga and in your face, she does take risks with her outfits. but she never looks like she tries too hard.

the results were interesting :
pink, katy perry and daisy lowe (so over her) got no votes at all
cheryl cole got a few pity votes in round two. but a lot less then we thought she would get.
agyness deyn got like one vote. one singular vote. so at least one person likes her shit dark hair. she should be proud.
the fight was on between lady gaga and rihanna with herself coming out tops!
florence and the machine were the closest after that but lady gaga beat her by about 5 votes.

chic-topia.com - what a way to spend a few hours

i got lost on chictopia.com today. with a few hours to spare i did my usual checking - facebook, then emails, then style kingdom then style bitches followed with a few blogs. i like to check what other people are saying and what applications or things they have that i don't.
but this site allows you to rate and talk about other people's outfits. positively. i looked through lots of photos and surprisingly, everyone is positive because if you run a blog then you'll know sometimes people can be a negetive about one thing or another and before you know it. its anarchy.
anyway, check out the site and we selected our fave ones from the site for you to get an idea of the calibure of outfit on show..

what i love :the fact that she even thought to get some bows for her wrists. love the big shoulders on the small jacket which adds to the cartoonish effect of the dress.

what i love : funny, i am going through an obsession with these hats right now.that coat is from pennys ladies.

what i love : I love this ladies take on the winter jumper! it rocks. she looks really really snuggly and warm. not sure about the legging or knee high socks as i think its a bit..something...but i do love a good winter jumper.

this was the best one as far as i am concerned. i love the lace braces, the skinny jeans and the shoes, but the best part is that giant bow on her head. perfection. it doesn't look too sculpted and created but just has the right amount of fashion fiddling to it.

henry holland and pretty polly

henry holland.

a designer who has caused me a considerable amount of pondering, do i actually like him or not? while last years floral and polka dotted catwalk display helped me to decide that I do in fact like him. just not the way he puts together a show. it's too much. the pieces look great when teamed with other things. but together I think its all just a bit heaped together. so, imagine my surprise when a few months ago (yes, its a better late then never blog) I clapped eyes on his collection of tights for Pretty Polly.

i loved the black alphabet tights instantly.
but there was a problem, everywhere in Ireland that sells these tights - do not have them in black. not sold out. just never got them in. you can only get acid pink, blue or purple. which is not so cool.
then you have the fake stocking 'the mock stock' which is apparently a best seller. although, the pop sock which is meant to look like old school socks with a belt to keep them up - could not get a photo - are nasty and best left as...well, in the shop really.

get them at tightsplease.co.uk or at river island shops anywhere and also in arnotts in dublin. but don't go looking for the black ones. they don't have 'em

miss penny was born in the underbelly of cork in 2007 in the middst of Freakscene. she progressed to Limerick for a year partying wherever would take her. she eventually started to get interesting things for showing up places. so she recruited a whole series of other people to take part. held big parties in random places, it was all a bit random. these were the eyelash whores. in 2010, the eyelash whores became the 'cocaine kids.' or 'kids' for short. and a thing was born out of something riiiiiight?

anyway, with roots in all cities, she moved forward and her AGM (annual Gin Meeting) revealed her plans for the new year......

photoshoot for the miss penny dreadful launch night and the dreadful kids

this is one of the looks for the show in jan. this headpiece is inspired by the chelsea flowershow and the flowers are from topshop
we blended a light blue MAC eyeshadow across the temples, bringing a a dark purple line out from the corner of the eye - blending as we went. we filled in the outer corners with the dark purple. we drew on the spiky bit using a grey liquid from Barry M cosmetics but any liner would be good, smudging the ends to make them fade, we also took quite a bit of brown in there too to dark the edges of the eye and blend in with the purple. there is a little bit of white highlighter in the inner corner of the eye. draw on a black liquid line - ours is Avon. then mascara to finish
eyebrows - make sure everything is blended before you do this, but get  a black eye pencil, arch your eyebrow and draw in the arch. the eyeshadow covers a light eyebrow color anyway, so you HAVE  to draw new ones on. then smudge the end to fade it away.
lips : are MAC's cyber lipstick with a highlighted piece in the center. just dot on blue eyeshadow in the center.

base : we used MAC mineralise foundation and benefits 'something kinda gorgeous' to blend and create a slighty pale base.
we tried the look with only one flower to start but found it better with all three

these are the tester shots for the shoot

giggling at photographers...
we tried using black sequinned tops and neck pieces for this but it just didn't make it. good shot of the blue shadow though
we orginally tried gold sequins for the start of the shot. didnt work. nor did the hair being loose.
getting camera ready. you should always take a photo to show that whatever make-up you use photos well. the blue we used, did not at first and was useless in close ups

everybody dancing to lady gaga!!!!
the finished look before we started. the gold and black sequinned things around my neck are leggings from primark we thought might work. they didn't.

anyway, more to come. keep checking with us for more looks then the official vote later on in the month for the three looks for miss penny dreadful and the kids.
