THE DREADFUL DIARIES

THE DREADFUL DIARIES :

So eventful week. Had all my assignments and article deadlines due this week. for some insane reason. It all just mounted up! but, am happy to report that everything is in on time and correct.
Sunday saw me recovering from over indulging myself in the george with T. no idea what i was drinking but the shame of it. so spent all day sunday trying not to throw up on my shoes. not a good look.
Monday was short but definatly not sweet as I panicked my way through an article on this seasons platforms, then went for a wander through my essay before finishing my piece on make-up for ever which I am very happy with.
Wed night I donned my hat and sequinned dinner jacket for the Fran and Jane fashion show in Dundrum which was, to be fair. great fun. got photo taken for Image magazine (dreading it) and overindulged the wine. Happy days. got goody bag, food, butlers chocolate, wine and smiles all round! the show was fab. models all fran and jane staff which made the screaming and clapping for the ones i knew even more fun! Have to say, was impressed with some of the dresses on display. A + AM joined me for a spot of wine and some mini fish and chips in the smoking roof terrace. great times. my head the next morning!
Watch this space for the blog post!

So in the next few days I am off to the dundrum oxfam sale, the pop up flea market on exhequer street in town and there is the possibility of an event or two over the next week. eyes akimbo ladies (and gents) you just might see me...... but a word of warning, when it comes to designer sales. i'm all elbow and handbags. prepare for all out war.

art in the morning......

Flicking through my bebo.com account to remove my images before the site goes bust in a few weeks I came across these. By a very talented friend of mine. Tadhg Curran. Tadhg works as a painter in Galway and is extremely talented. These are two paintings he did in his first year at Limerick school of art and design. I am very fortunate to be the proud owner of one of his paintings as well. he writes a blog, http://nightvisionart.blogspot.com/ which i am delighted to have in my blogroll as well!
And yes, that is my blonde badly highlighted home dye job head in the picture....so log onto his site and see what he's up to.....

Craig Dean. Interesting photographer!

Today I have been, mostly enjoying the work of Craig Dean, photographer. I stumbled across his work today and have really loved some of his images. then I was surprised to see that he has worked quite a bit with Miss Moss.....now, there you go.. his images are beautiful with an almost spooky edge to them.....me likes. it's almost enough to make me want to create the first piece of art since I left the college.....almost....
So not taking any credit for any of the images, they are all his.

what you wearing?

what-choo wearing?
Leigh. Spy. Feb 2010 - Cute jacket again. this time vintage from benetton! I also love this girls hair. But the jacket is perfectly matched with the black clothing. when rocking a statement jacket, always keep your clothes dark and simple. It makes the jacket pop so much more!

it's also a fun take on the denim trend as well. I wish I had held onto my denim yellow skirt from topshop. same shade, same denim.....

what you wearing?

what-choo wearing?
Aine. SPY. February 2010. Yes, that is the sell out Topshop jacket as seen on the back of Alexa Dung......amazingly cute coat though riiiiight?

this in a way makes me sick with the envy....A is only 16! when i was 16 I wore the worst clothes in the world....i was a teenage goth. yeah, the white face, the black lips, the band t-shirts (actually i still wear them) and the awful awful biker boots.....

Marc Jacobs splits up with husband.....

sad news all round.....Marc Jacobs and his husband has split. I'm really surprised by this. Every photo you see of them, they just seem so happy.....

IMPORTANT NOTICE

KIDS - THE EVENT PONY KIDS HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

although there are horrible rumours as to why....but we wont go into that now will we?????

rokit.com vintage trall....

Rokit has come up trumps for Vintage! hurrah! rokit.com -------) check out the links page! but they have some amazing bargains from 20s - 80's. like this 40's tea dress above...
80's tea party dress. crying out for ankle socks, strappy sandals and a mulberry alexa!
80's party dress. it's very throw on some wham with your hair in a side ponytail...
80's knitwear. if your one of those GLEE fools then you'll understand the allure of the jumper. if your like me, you like it because its very Marina and the diamonds. team with skinny jeans, nerdy glasses and doc martins.
this is the mens version of the knitwear piece above. horrible color. but still....
this is under the mens jacket section. personally i think it's unisex-ually wonderful! hurrah!
these are currently on sale in the harlequinn in dublin as well. but i think rokit has the edge on them.
it's the jacket of my dreams. over jeans, over a dress, with a white skirt....the 80's possibi-lties are endless!

what i wore today

I have a massive hangover after the fran and jane fashion show last night. seriously. but as always, my style is still strange. This is my oasis lilly print prom dress layered over my Specials t-shirt!!!!!
i am also wearing leather look leggings ripped at the knee, studded boots and no make-up. ew.

old photos make me cry...

Since bebo is about to become a thing of the past. I decided i had better get all my bebo pics down and up on facebook. easier said then done. i was once very camera happy and i have hundreds upon hundreds. But it provoked an interesting response from me. Some photos made me happy, some were incredibly painful (you know who you are) and some were just sad....
at a halloween party. Can't remember what I was supposed to be.  but it was the start of my love affair with insane club wear. loved those wings....
an awful shot of me. my hair was too short and looked terrible. I was on my way to the RDS for the off rails event. which was shit. but, still have, love and wear that scarf....When this was taken i was in 3rd year of art college. working part time in retail and dating someone. I was in a long term serious relationship for 2/3 years and living in town over the top of topshop!

very young photo of me. i was only 20 there. how cute? i have no make-up on. when this was taken I was living in grove island student apartments in my 2nd year studying sculpture in limerick. I was working in ann summers and all i wanted to be in life was a model. because at this point i hadn't discovered i was too fat to be a model and too cynical not to be a journalist.....

Make-up For ever. New Aqua collection!

When an invite to view the new collection by Make up forever popped into my inbox I couldn’t not go. I’ve been a fan of theirs ever since their concession in Arnotts used to grab my attention every day on my way out to lunch. Slick black stands with pop color pieces dotted amongst other make-up concessions, make-up forever makes one hell of an impact!

So I arrived at their press launch eager to see what they had for me. The new line they launched jumped out at me amongst rows and row of the professional tools I could only dream of.

I love brightly colored make-up. As you have all seen the work I have produced dotted amongst the entries on the blog, you can imagine that if it’s a bit vibrant, I love it.

But, when you work in the industry, you must have quality. A bad eyeshadow or a dodgy lipstick can ruin a show, destroy your reputation and generally just be bad for everyone involved. Which is why going to see Make-up forever was so much fun. High quality products. I could rave about them all day. I really could. But, I do have to tell you about what I saw.

I am going through a strong eye make-up phase at the moment and was immediately drawn to a display of intense eye creams. I managed to chat to the make-up artists on hand to ask about what they were and why were they so important? The new make-up line, of which the eye creams are an essential part have been designed with the olympic swimmers from team France ! so this means all the pieces are waterproof. Now, I know what your thinking, proberely the same as me. Which was, The closest I come to anything athletic is the sprint to the Luas on a cold monday morning. But as we edge closer to swimsuit season (and I’m possibly off to France) these things are important. No one likes to get out of the pool with the eyes of racoon. (apart from actual racoons)

So this in mind, I had a quick look at the 22 colors advailable in the range. And I can tell you, there is a color for every bathing suit ever imagined. Are you rocking the Burberry inspired candy colors this season? Well, they have a gorgeous coral and some baby pinks there to suit you.try shades 6, 18 and 9 for the full effect. Are you more of a Kate Moss in a bikini girl (aka – rocking the smoky eye effect? Then there are silvers, greys and blacks you can blend together to get the look.

For those who prefer to rock a full fashion lip color, there are 18 intense shades for you to try. Long lasting and also waterproof! Hurrah! (even if the water is more vodka then swimming pool!)

But it gets better. If you have ever suffered (and lord knows I have) from sweat or rain (this is Ireland) making your foundation run? Well, they also produce an amazing display of foundations suitable for this very purpose. Which in turn, should you decide after getting wet in the rain and sweating to go for a swim. Wont come off. Brilliant!

If any of you caught the interview I did with the Irish Independent.ie about my make-up, then you’ll know that I love eyebrow pencils. They also do 6 shades of waterproof eyebrow creams. So I can have my 40’s inspired dark brows while swimming (or as I normally prefer, floating around in the shallow end while pretend not to check out other people)

Make-up for ever has been around a long time. Established in 1984, they know what their doing. Their shop on Claredon street has everything you could ever want. I mean everything. From brushes to stage make-up, to foundation to cover scars to make-up carrying cases. They work proffessionally on Sex and the City, Gossip girl, Desperate Housewives and have produced the make-up for Avatar. The make-up suits any age, skin tone, skin combination and they can cover tattoos, scars or acne. Brilliant stuff.

I have used their products before and always found them to be of high quality. But if you don’t believe me, try it yourself! Pop into Claredon street, they do make-up for weddings, saturdays nights, fashion shows, you name it. They do it.

(it’s actually my dream job. I walked in a daze staring wistfully at rows upon rows of products with a look of pure undiluted joy on my face)

I decided then to follow the three models onto the street where a photographer on hand took some photos. While I envied the girls amazing ability to remain proffessional on a busy dublin street while wearing only body art for clothing. Don't know if I would have the courage!!!! I snapped some pics before returning to the shop to collect my coat and gaze at the make-up a bit more.

The Buzz :

What we ate : Thai sushi rolls in clear wraps

What we drank : Coffee (had a meeting with the fashion show director straight after)

the Paris vest...

happy to report that Topshop is dying to get rid of these vests. I found out why. I wanted to buy one when they were full price but kept forgetting. (aka - Spent my money on the tee and cake tops instead) and now, at 12 euro I thought i would give one a whirl.
Only to find they are stupidly low cut and your bra is on display the whole time.
to the good people who were drinking the george on saturday night.
i can only apologise.
