Right, so Vivienne Westwood has some ideas about consumerism and stuff. Here goes : "I don't put any faith in youth. I do to the extent they're always idealistic, but the last lot of them have been brought up to be heavy consumers."
She then goes on to claim : '"when I look back, it was only a look, and it was just a marketing opportunity.''
So we are heavy consumers yes? well take a look at your own advertising campaigns Viv. We are bombared by advert after advert after advert, so no wonder we feel like buying things - we are constantly told to by people like you. You work in one of the most fast moving industries which tells us that the high waisted pants we bought last season look stupid this season with the low rise ones! But when we move to replace them by buying this season, which your adverts have told us to do - we are labelled 'heavy consumers?'
Seems a tad bit unfair. If your that worried about the state of affairs, then remove your advertising and take your clothes off the runway. Then you have just cause to sit there and complain about consumerism and the youth of today. As for punk being a marketing oppertunity, didn't seem to worry you when you were setting up sex in the 70's or alining yourself with most punk bands going did it?
If it's true what you say and you did it 'for the marketing' then surely you were even more involved in setting up the consumer driven generation we have now?
ARGH!
