I normally find one or three pieces I like in Alexander Wang's collections, but I was really uninspired by this. I know that a few of the 'serious' fashion websites are writing about how much they liked this. But personally, I write about what I think of the collection and how it makes me feel. This, doesn't make me feel great!
I'm normally not one for sports wear, I am aware with the bloody olympics coming up that magazines are going to jump on the bandwagon to promote wearing sportswear - still I've always hated it. I was a bit confused by this collection and uninspired by it. It didn't make me want to discard my winter wardrobe or start planning next year's summer 'look', it just made me feel vaguely uncomfortable and the reason for that is.....
The mesh fabric which reminds me of old sweaty sneakers. Look at the pockets on the shorts - ew! I dunno. This just lacks the sporty-luxe feel that most of his older collections have. I used to find casual sweaters, dresses and T-shirts which were cool because they were so simple. This seems a bit like I should be running or sweating somewhere....not a fan of it.
It feels sort of 80s as well. But then that could just be because it's sportswear. I hope this isn't going to be trend we see repeated. Although I have a bad feeling it could be. The other strange thing, I'm not sure if this is just me but, I never normally associate Wang with color. I always think of him as blacks/greys/whites, not color. So....is this just me?
