PENNY..at the Movies : The Muppets
Turns out I was right. First off, it's cringeworthy. A lot of the jokes and the storyline are cringy and overly Americanised, which doesn't really translate over here at all. I found the songs disjointed and parts of it didn't really fit in properly - they seemed in a hurry to stick in too many songs and it showed. I kept watching but it never really properly made me smile or engaged me.
There was one part though which fashion heads will get a smile out of - Miss Piggy as the editor at large of Vogue Paris, note her receptionist, Emily Blunt who played Emily in Devil Wears Prada - its a nice touch!
Apart from that this seems utterly forgettable and not very well thought through. It's a shame because younger generations who might not be familiar with the muppets wont understand what they once were. It is a good family movie if your bored on a Sunday, but apart from that it seems like a massive waste of time really.
The cameos are rife in this and Jason Segel actually makes me cringe for him. I used to have an odd form of respect for him after Forgetting Sarah Marshall but this is totally over the top and just doesn't suit his acting style. Jack Black is just awful in everything. I am happy he tends to stick to kid movies because he cant really do adult emotions and storylines.
Sorry Muppets, I was hoping for better....
