Collars at Topshop

I wrote before about how brilliant the lace capes and collars from River Island are and how amazing they can make even the plainest black vest seem - so it's no surprise that the high street store which were first on the trend have introduced the newest form of accessory into their S/S- A/W collections - the collar.
Adding to simple shirts or vests can save valuable time getting ready to go out! I should know, I have a feathered cape or two which have saved me from the agonizing what to wear dance- which happens a lot.

H&M bring back their summer essentials

Oh I don't know if I blogged about this or not, but - H&M have brought back their summer essentials for under a tenner again this year. Last year they provided me with a wonderful wardrobe for nothing before heading to France, but I was surprised by how much I've worn the pieces since. It's worth while, with stripy casual skirts for 3/4 euro or tube dresses for 5, its easy to get some essential pieces together for that summer holiday

CAMPAIGNS : Chanel

Freja as a cat for Chanel....Miaow! She can -insert cat related joke here - anytime! HAWT!

WHATS ON : DUBLIN

Getting all excited about this tommorow night in the Grand Social in Dublin, featuring performances from the Hot Honey Rag Dolls and the Dublin Fire Performance Troupe - it looks like it's going to be a fantastic night!
I will be there for sure! Taking pictures, so if your mask is up to it, come up and say hi and you could end up on the blog!!!

Victoria by Victoria Beckham to hit stores

Interestingly enough - Victoria Beckham is to introduce a new line of clothing - Victoria by Victoria Beckham, a lower priced line like MCQ by McQueen or Marc by Marc Jacobs. No word yet on where it's going to be stocked, but one can only imagine!
The line is inspired by Emily Strange, a gothic cartoon I used to ADORE back in the day where I thought black lipstick and white face paint was the height of cool. So lots of loose shapes and billowing dresses in various colors. Not too far removed from her collection of dresses for A/W which showcased a different shape and cut for a designer known for her tight tailored pieces.
Prehaps inspired by her recent pregnancy? Who knows!

Shoes - the debate - are we over platforms yet?

Call me crazy - but something is going on with women and their shoes.
I've noticed amongst my friends that a trend seems to be taking shapes for women in flat shoes. Now, I would be one of the first girls to reach for my 6 inch strappies (that sounds worse then intended!!!) in a morning, but lately since I recieved word that I will have to have surgery on my feet as a result of wearing massive platforms that I've been loving my flat shoes.
It makes sense in a Dublin sense since you can walk everywhere, you can dance, not fall over, take on stairs and in the case of a certain nightclub that will remain nameless - I can scale the speakers! (Sorry Dave - you were right to pull me down - I know that now)
But it's interesting given that the high street seems to be taking note - Topshop have introduced the brothel creeper into their A/W collection which has been trending on the street for some time now. Not to mention sales of ballet slippers following Black Swan have rocketed!
Grazia Magazine this week published a picture of Pixie Geldoff wearing Buffelos - those awful platform trainers which were trendy in the 90's (yes because of the Spice Girls) which was interesting, one upon a time, I would have been all over this.
Now, I'm indifferent. I could, but I just don't want to.
I've gotten used to dancing in clubs and the thought of wearing my vast collection of heels just doesn't interest me anymore - simple reason, I mentioned the surgery. I know of another blogger who has posted pictures of her feet post bunion surgery - after my surgery, I don't intend to do that. But I will be letting you know just how things are going because if I had known just how bad this would get - I would have worn flats to college, work and dancing. Heels for special occasions. Which is the way it should be and should have been. Surgery is set for September 21st and I wont be able to walk for a month - stay tuned

The Irish weather...

I had a thought today - just one, I know - but as I got off the bus into Cork wearing a T-shirt, a jumper and a leather jacket - how unfair the Irish summer is on us.

It's miserable! I mean, everyone else gets a summer, so why not us?

I know I was very lucky to get a summer festival out of the weather but this has gone beyond bad now! I was actually cold last night and needed a heavier duvet - in June! Not to mention the rain that fell against the bus as I was on my way here.

I look at the weather my friends are describing in various countries across the world and all I can think is - get me as far away as possible!!!! Oh and here is a picture of wellies to really get the mood of this post across!

Racheal Zoe : Snooooooze fest

Those type of women who think small children are cute ( I don't but I do get a bit teary eyed and broody over Manolos) are cooing over this picture on the blogsphere. I normally don't put anything Racheal Zoe up here as I don't give too shits about her and I think she looks like a bus hit her and oh yeah, she can't style.....but anyway - she keeps getting her son out as a media weapon and thanks to women's hormones (lets be honest, boys don't care what Racheal Zoe's baby is wearing) she's getting away with it. Now some do reckon that RZ was what designer Tom Ford had on his mind when he ripped into celebrity mums carrying children as press tools recently (scroll down the blog, it's there somewhere!) but, I have to say this picture makes me think : This is up there with Elizabeth Hurley in how to humilate your child before he can talk.
I don't care how designer the baby is or the sunglasses, he looks like a fool.

Why can't we just stop using children as press tools ? (Tom I got yo' back boy!) because not all of us are desperate for children, in fact, I would go as far as to say I am not the only women who doesn't want children in the world! GASP

- WHICH WOULD MEAN!!! THAT RACHEAL ZOE MEANS SHIT ALL TO US!

Beyonce was good. There, I admit it

I watched Glasto on the telly this year (and every year) and I have to say, not a Beyonce fan at all, but she did really really well - to the point where I could justify spending the stupid amounts of money she no doubt charges for 'gigs' but then I woke up and smelled the festival toilets - of course it was great, I was watching it up close and personal on the TV with BBC coverage - of course it was wonderful, I could see the insect bites on her ankles for the love of god!
Not only that, but I was sitting in a clean, warm pub with a fresh pint , working toilets and a having had an amazing shower before I left!
Mind you, there is nothing that comes close to that festival feeling is there though....

John Galliano has a new designer boss type man person

Bill Gaytthen has replaced John Galliano as head of his own label. The designer has worked with the label for 23 years now, so he should have a fairly good idea of what's he's doing by now!!!
It's such a weird feeling, your life's work and your own name label can be owned and ran by someone else. Granted someone else who has worked with you for years, but still.....

...This is what happens when brands sell to companies like LVMH, you fuck up, they fuck you out. Simple as, they own you and make no mistake about it - you will toe the line.

The other side of this is how the hell are companies supposed to finance and support, produce and nuture their brands without the money that the super companies bring in? Answer : they can't.

I mean I heard that Micheal Kors is selling shares to Tommy Hilfiger so he can further the company along. I don't know if it's true or not but fashion is so all over the place. It's hard to know who the hell is designing for who, owned by who and who is who in this game. It's all about shutting up and getting on with it......

When bad clothes happen to good people.....

Oh dear sweet lord why?
I am mean really......

Courtney Love on Etsy is genius

I hope you can read this - because it's Courtney Love's Etsy account - which is genius. Listen to her favourite things : tattered vintage dresses, knives, signet rings, dolls, sometimes, old books and big fat crystals.
I am weak. The woman is brilliant!

Harry and Pippa are not together - mainly because he's as ugly as sin

It's amazing how much I don't care about the royal wedding, and I am OVER reading about it. I really am. I have to say though, Grazia have been harping on (and trying to sell copy) about Pippa and Harry getting together - cop. the. fuck. on.
It happened. They got married. Now let the posh twats alone - sorry I'm a little anti-love today and for the forsable future!
Is anyone else sick of the royal wedding-athon? or is it just me?

THE BEAUTY SPOT : Nails again

Nails Inc and their new collection featuring Little Miss characters. Cute! Kinda liking that mint green below - if I can't afford DVF this season which is all about mint green - then god damn it, I can at least do my best with a decently priced nail varnish!

When bad make-up happens to good people...

It's hard to make Gwen Stefani look like a bad drag act - but someone somewhere brandishing a make-up brush managed it. It's too much for a woman who is naturally stunning. What a shame. She's normally stunning, this just makes her look like she fell over in boots and landed on a Rimmel stand before battling the Barry M cosmetics stand on the way out.
Shame

Vintage hairdryers and straighteners

How cute? I first noticed these on a walk through Grafton Street one day, Vintage style hairdryers and straighteners! The hair dryer is only €12 on www.thebeauty-works.co.uk. They do come in blue as well, but I think you have to really search for them.

LOOKBOOK : Topshop A/W 2011/2012

I love when the Topshop lookbook hits the blogsphere, its a clear guide the affordable trends which are going to be all over the streets in the next few months - and I didn't think it was possible for them to outdo their previous collection of 2010, but they've managed to. Last year I picked a few items which fitted my aesthetic, but this year I am considering changing my entire look to accomodate the Pyschobilly range - which is boyish tailoring from the 1950's adapted to create a fantastic new shape, it's 50's teenagers with attitude. I LOVE IT! So feast your eyes kids....and get your credit cards at the ready....
The glamrock era appears again with the fedora hat, metallic fabrics, blazers with skinny trousers and platforms - break out your inner Debbie Harry and don't forget lashings of dark eyeshadow...
The side slit was seen all over the catwalks this season as well, it works best in maxi lengths, but don't be afraid to attempt Marc Jacobs pencil skirt slit too - its very 90's and given that we have Irish weather to contend with, I think it could mean adding some funky tights - luckly Topshop do those too.
The pleated skirt returns for next season, so buy in the sales now - yes they will be summer fabrics but you can always layer with tights.
This look presents an issue for me, I love the prim and proper look - complete with tailored box bags and polite hems - however my own look is a little bit....punk for me to get away with that. I'd love to be that girl, but alas, I am not....
How Chanel influenced are those shorts?
Mustard, sunburst yellows and deep reds are A/W fallbacks but Victoria Beckham used them to excess in her A/W collection so they are going to be a massive trend and the only colors to be seen in next season. Note the clutch - SO Marc Jacobs!
They have also used Russia as an influence this season as well by adding a Russian feel with print, layering and plenty of fur (faux natch!) in the collection - Loving the idea of a scarf under a hat. Not sure it translates to the actual streets of Dublin, but I'll give anything a go!
I love the hat - it takes the furry bear hat to new heights, given my partner HATES them - it could be the perfect way to piss off those who have to be seen with you for that post-work pint!
Again, leopard print is back! Every year it comes back - in shoe, tights, t-shirt or dress format. I much prefer this to the awful snakeskin print which is apparently meant to be HUGE this season - luckily JLO killed the trend stone dead, so hopefully it wont go too far!
A lot of the looks have a distinct 70's feel to them, which means that the 70s are back for a third season! I don't really care too much for it given that my chosen vintage is the 60's, 80's and 90's. But I could totally try to rock the look, I would totally be okay with it!
I love the trousers.

Now, I love the 50's look, I'm useless at the pin up style in terms of perfect make-up and hair but I can really get on board with the menswear from that decade. I love that this trend is quite boyish but then by teaming the more boyish elements like the shoes and the blazers with a sneaky skirt or a quirky heel - it changes the feel of the collection and takes what can sometimes be an overdone trend into new territory and makes it something new.
Ive been trying to perfect the sleeveless blazer for sometime now by cutting the sleeves off blazers - which always ends in tears given that I am not too good at sewing and i always forget about the lining. So I gave up.

So altogether a perfect series of collections due to hit stores in the next month. I have already bookmarked what I want in the hope that I get some form of sugar daddy over the next week or two! Which wont happen meaning that I am destined to be stuck in my maxi skirts and usual rock T-shirts. Oh well...

GIRL CRUSH : Patti Smith

My ultimate girl crush - Patti Smith.
I was delighted that I got to see her in Cork a few weeks ago and it meant the world to me. I still think she's amazing even though she was a little rude. But then, fuck it - if I had that much talent I would insist on punching people in the face repeatedly instead of talking to them. But that's just me!
I've always thought she looks a little like my mum in the Horses cover, I don't know if it's the angle or what but she definitely reminds me of her circa the 70's.

Kate Moss is no VIP

Apparently Kate Moss is no longer considered a VIP at Glasto this year and has been told by organisers that she has to get stuck in with the regular citizens if she goes. Wow, wonder how she feels about that!??!

Thats one expensive piece of kit

If you thought paying €160 for a skull scarf was dangerous money - then your not going to believe how expensive this scarf is - how does $4.8 million. I can't even be arsed finding out how much that is in euro - because it's a little more then I have right now ! But the scarf is designed by Henri Matisse n 1940 - thats why it's a little dear....

Lace on shorts, shorts on lace....oh!

Lace shorts.
You know what to do

River Island

I LOVE THIS CAPE

Oh...Oh jesus yes....Lace cape from River Island. I want.

THE DREADFUL DIARIES : Sometimes

THE DREADFUL DIARIES : Somewhere over the rainbow...

Its been a hard week here, but somehow I have come out the other side of it, not quite at the laughing stage, but give me a few days to sleep off the hangover from last night!
Champagne and I do not mix well, we have a love hate relationship - I love to drink it, it hates me enough to make me sick the next day....
So I am back to Dublin on Monday night, getting quite excited about the idea of seeing my friends - who are essentially my family - and spending some time with them. I really can't wait. I finally got my hands on the McQueen book I have been longing for for some time now. The boy gave it to me as a birthday present, which was lovely.
I'm also gearing up for the shows in a few weeks time as well, which means finding an outfit! I also have my partners birthday in the next few weeks as well, so will have to get an outfit that does day to night! gulp!
Things are tough with the blog at the moment because my internet is down, so I am blogging as often as can be expected - but it's hard! Bare with me and together we will get through this!

HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE!

I hope everyone has had a really good gay pride and enjoyed Dublin this week! The parade was a massive success (as usual) and it's really great to see everyone celebrating and having a great time!
- I could have gone with a rainbow flag as the image but once i saw this dog in a rainbow colored sweater, I was sold! HOW CUTE!??!?!?!
